The Yorktown Seniors of 2020: Camille A. You know, every time I set out to profile a soccer player, or a golfer, or an avid reader, I end up getting completely thrown off by these seniors.
Somehow these young men and women have a way of hijacking the conversation and taking it to a higher plane. I’m not sure if this trend could be any more apparent than with Camille’s email of ten minutes ago. Watch how it happens: “In high school I played soccer, and I was a part of NHS and SOAR. Next year I will attend and play soccer at the University of Portland, in Oregon. Soccer has been part of my life since I was 5.
It allows me to meet a variety of people, travel around the country, and learn about different cultures from around the world that value soccer. My experiences from playing soccer, along with a sociology class I took Junior year, are a few factors that broadened my awareness of the injustices of our world.
From the wage gap between males and females within the sport (and in other professions) to issues within our justice system, there is still so much in the world that I want to change. I am looking forward to majoring in sociology with a criminology track, in order to help people who face unfair challenges because of current systems in place.”
